Вакцинация — наиболее экономически целесообразный метод борьбы с распространением инфекционных заболеваний. Эпидемиологически обоснованное применение вакцин значительно снизило заболеваемость и смертность от таких наносящих значительный экономический ущерб болезней как корь, полиомиелит, дифтерия, пневмококковые инфекции и др.
