I. Великобританія розташована на Британських островах. Британські острови лежать на захід від Континенту (Європи) і полягає їх двох великих островів (Великобританія й Ірландія), і багатьох маленьких. Великобританія і північна частина Ірландії утворюють Об'єднане Королівство. Загальна площа Об'єднаного Королівства становить 244.000 км2.

Населення Великобританії понад 56 мільйонів. Це з самих густонаселених країн світі. Середня щільність населення — 230 осіб у квадратний кілометр, один із найбільш високих в мире.

Західне узбережжі Великобританії омивається Атлантичним океаном і Ірландським морем. Східне узбережжі омивається водами Північного моря. Протоку Ла-Манш, ширина якого 32 кілометра, відокремлює південний схід Великобританії від Франции.

У Великобританії багато річок, але вони довгі. Річка Северн в Уельсі і ріка Шаннон в Ірландії є найбільш длинными.

Острів Великобританія чітко розділений на частини: гірську (північ і захід) і низинну (південь і восток).

На Британських островах м’який помірний климат.

У Великобританії є мінеральні багатства. Це вугілля, природного газу, нафту, родовища мінерального сировини й др.

Великобританія промислово розвинена країна. Глазго і Ньюкасл, обидва розташовані на річках, стали величезними центрами машиноі суднобудування. У Ланкаширі виробляють бавовняні товари, в Йоркширу — вовняні, у те час як Шеффілд зосереджений на залозі і вони. Бірмінгем та інші міста центральної Великобританії розвивають легке машиностроение.

Великобританія — це парламентаристская монархія. Це означає, що існує Корольова (чи Король) і Парламент. Корольова майже має влади у країні. Закони видаються Парламентом.

Британський Парламент і двох палат: Палати Лордів і Палати Громад. У Палаті Лордів більш численна. Місця у ній наследственные.

Палата Громад складається з 635 членів. Вони обираються на виборах (таємним голосованием).

Уряд очолює Прем'єр — Міністр, є лідером партії, котра перемогла на выборах.

II. 1. What foreign language do you study?

I study English. I had studied German before I entered the Institute, but now I’m studying English.

I. 1. Great attention is paid to sport at English schools.

At English schools pupils have a lot of physical training lessons. The number of these lessons is not limited by the Ministry of Education and depends on director of a school, the teacher’s qualification and equipment of the school.

At the physical training lessons schoolchildren play different sport games, such as football and cricket. At English schools the physical culture is of the best ways of training character.

2. Spot is very popular in Britain.

A lot is sport games are popular in Great Britain, but the most popular is football. There are 2 rinds of football in Great Britain Association Football and rugby football.

Moreover, hockey is popular both among men and women.

In the more individual sports, tennis probably takes 1st place in public favour. Saturday afternoons and Sundays many tennis courts of England are occupied by people of any age. II. My sister’s book — книга моєї сестры.
