Общая часть пути биосинтеза разных тетрапирролов состоит из девяти ферментативных этапов. Фермент глутамил-тРНКсинтетаза (рис.1: 1) присоединяет молекулу глутаминовой кислоты к tPHKGIu, таким образом происходит активация карбоксильной группы. Для реакции необходимо присутствие АТФ и Mg2+.
