Современные исследования пищевого статуса показывают разнонаправленный дисбаланс в составе рациона, как по микронутриентному, так и по макронутриентному составу. Чаще всего разбалансированность рациона по макронутриентному составу представлена снижением содержания белков, преобладанием жиров или углеводов.
