Индейские писатели второй половины XX века так или иначе привлекают устно-мифологический материал, но предлагаемые ими методы синтеза традиционного и литературного очень различны. Джеймс Уэлч (James Welch, p. 1940) относится к реконструкции традиционных установок в XX веке с большой долей иронии, переходящей в сарказм.
