Явление комплементарности одно из самых распространенных в природе. Действительно субстрат комплементарен ферменту, антигенантителу, лиганд — рецептору и т. д. Это одно из фундаментальных свойств живой материи, смысл которого до конца не познан. Лектин — углеводные отношения — одно из ярких проявлений этой комплементарности.
