Изучение регуляторных механизмов формирования мужского гаметофита, одного из ключевых этапов репродуктивного процесса высших растений, весьма существенно для разработки фундаментальных проблем роста и развития растений, включая дифференциацию и деление клеток, а также для решения ряда практических задач растениеводства, в том числе генетико-селекционных работ.
