Вопрос о масштабах и механизмах горизонтального переноса генов в природных популяциях до сих пор мало изучен, хотя, несомненно, он представляет большой научный интерес, с точки зрения исследования механизмов эволюции геномов бактерий, и имеет прикладное значение в связи с оценкой риска интродукции в природные экосистемы бактерий, созданных методами генной инженерии.
