Отдельные участки хлоропластного генома, преимущественно некодируюгцие, широко используются для филогенетического анализа на низком таксономическом уровне (Kelchner 2000, 2002), для популяционно-генетических исследований (Powell et al., 1995, Mohanty et al., 2002).
