Важный шаг был сделан в 1990;1991 гг.,. когда независимо двумя группами исследователей, Held и Iwamoto, была обнаружена высокая активность металлзамещенных цеолитов в реакциях СКВ N0. В работе было показано, что на металлзамещенных цеолитах, среди которых наиболее активным был Си/морденит, в присутствии избытка кислорода достигается конверсия N0 на уровне 66%.
