Проблема атопического дерматита является чрезвычайно актуальной в связи с 2−3 кратным увеличением заболеваемости АД в индустриальных странах за последние 30 лет. АД страдают 10−20% детей и 1−3% взрослых. Многочисленные исследования показали, что АД является полиэтиологичным заболеванием.
