АДГ-индуцированный рост водной проницаемости апикальной мембраны клеток плотных эпителиев приводит к осмотическому движению воды из просвета осморегулирующего органа (собирательной трубки почки млекопитающих или мочевого пузыря амфибий) в цитоплазму эпителиоцитов, в результате чего эти клетки сталкиваются с проблемой осмотического набухания и регуляции клеточного объёма.
