ВС1 РНК является во многих отношениях интересным и уникальным объектом для изучения. Во-первых, это малая цитоплазматическая, некодирующая белок РНК. Являясь в эволюционном измерении производной аланиновой тРНК, ВС1 РНК также транскрибируется РНК-полимеразой III (Martignetti, Brosius, 1995).
