В соматических клетках «низший» уровень компактизации создается за счет взаимодействия ДНК с тетрамером гистонов (Н2А, Н2 В, НЗ и Н4), в результате формируются «элементарные» ДНП фибриллы, состоящие из дискретных нуклеопротеиновых частиц — нуклеосом (Demeret et al., 2001).
