В Российской Федерации показатели заболеваемости и смертности вследствие патологии сердечно-сосудистой системы имеют угрожающий масштаб — 56,4% всех летальных исходов. В трудоспособном возрасте (от 25 до 64 лет) 38% смертей обусловлены заболеваниями системы кровообращения, при этом вклад в общую смертность мужчин (36%) и женщин (41%) практически одинаков.
