В последние годы активно обсуждалась роль одного из ретровирусов-XMRV (xenotropic murine leukemia virus related virus). Данные исследования активно обсуждаются лишь по наличию вирусной последовательности в опухолевых клетках РПЖ, выявленной методом гибридизации in situ.
