Підсистема вправ для навчання листування включає вісім комплексів вправ для навчання написання неофіційних та офіційних листів різних видів: листів-запрошень, -подяк, -вибачень, -запитів та надання інформації, -запитів та надання порад, листів про подальше навчання або працевлаштування. До кожної підсистеми/комплексу вправ входять три групи вправ (див. табл.):
- 1) для розвитку вмінь читання та розуміння текстів у виділених жанрах;
- 2) для формування та вдосконалення навичок написання текстів;
- 3) для формування та розвитку вмінь їх написання.
Щодо останньої групи вправ, то вона не входить лише до підсистеми вправ для навчання заповнення офіційних форм, що зумовлюється особливостями цього жанру.
Рецептивний етап
Вправа 1. Мета: розвиток умінь читання і розуміння тексту офіційного листа-подяки та формування навичок використання позамовних стандартів написання офіційного листа.
This is a letter written by a person, who has just returned from England, where he attended Summer school and lived in a host family. He decided to write a formal letter (a letter written to an official person or organization) to his tutor to thank him for his kindness and attention shown to him.
Usually formal letters are typed on computer.
a) Read this formal letter and be ready to answer the questions about its structure. (див. Додаток 2).
b) To see how well you understand the structure of a formal thank-you letter answer these questions:

- 3. What does the Introduction of a formal letter include?
- 4. What does the Body of a formal thank-you letter include?

Вправа 2. Мета: формування навичок використання позамовних, мовних і мовленнєвих стандартів при написанні вступної та заключної частин офіційного листа, якщо ім'я одержувача відоме і якщо невідоме.
You have attended Summer school at the same University and enjoyed the course. You want to write, а thank-you letter to your tutor but unfortunately you have forgotten his name.
a) Write the Introduction and Conclusion of your thank-you letter, use the layout of Oleksandr’s letter and the information given in the following hint:

In the letter given in exercise 1 the linking words and phrases are missing. You want to make Oleksandr’s letter better. Rewrite the body of his thank-you letter choosing the most appropriate linking words and phrases from the ones given below (be attentive, one word is unnecessary!): and, even, primarily, also, what is more, that, because.

Note: Do not use contracted forms (we're, I’ve) in formal letters!

The information is more detailed than you expected. Write a short thank-you letter to the British Council Information Centre for sending you the information about the place and time of the exam, the application procedure and cost. Their address is given above. After writing your letter check yourself, using the layout of a formal letter in exercise 2 and the hint in exercise 5. [12].
Writing informal letters.
Task 1.
Step 1. You are going to write a letter to a close friend. Before you start, study the information.

Step 3. Write the letter. Follow this advice:
- · Use your imagination to make it interesting.
- · Remember to use contracted forms, modifiers and adjectives.
- · Write about 150 words.
- · When you finish, check your letter for grammar and spelling mistakes. Correct any mistakes. [24]

- (3) Your website says that the apartments are all modern and in good condition. (4) But, the apartment I stayed in was built in 1970s, and needed work doing to it. The floors in the kitchen and bathroom were broken and dirty. (5) And the washing machine was not working.
- (6) I was also not happy to find that the apartment was a long way from the beach, and not «within ten minutes' walk» as specified in the brochure.
I had to move to another apartment, which took me time and cost me money. I paid over 300 Euros as a deposit on your flat and now (7) I hope you will send me all the money back.

Навчання написання офіційних і неофіційних листів, а також об’яв пропонується проводити на першому році навчання в старшій школі, навчання заповнення офіційних форм, написання автобіографій та супровідних листів — на останньому році навчання в ЗОШ. Такий розподіл невипадковий, оскільки саме заповнення офіційних форм, написання автобіографії та супровідного листа може знадобиться випускнику школи для обрання майбутньої професії зразу ж після її закінчення.
