Животные, способные распознавать запахи, получают информацию о пространственной локализации и качестве индивидуальных запахов с помощью обоняния. Вклад диффузии в распространении молекул запаха невелик, основное значение имеют потоки воздуха, с помощью которого молекулы запаха достигают обонятельного органа животного.
