С целью направленной доставки генетического материала в клетки, к поликатионам ковалентно присоединяют лиганд рецептора, расположенного на поверхности мембраны и специфического для данного типа клеток. В качестве таких лигандов могут выступать трансферрин, иммуноглобулины, лектины.
